Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery, Right? New Blog at TNR

- March 31, 2011

“The New Republic”:http://www.tnr.com/ has a new blog on their website called “The Study”:http://www.tnr.com/blogs/the-study. The purpose of this blog?

bq. Instead of aggregating news headlines, it’s going to aggregate academic papers from universities and think tanks–a genre of writing and thinking that has a lot to add to the world but that doesn’t get much attention from the media. We’re going to marry this academic writing to the day’s headlines, tying together what people are talking about in the world as a whole at any given moment with what various researchers and thinkers have discovered about these topics. Hopefully, if we do a good job, this project will inject some unexpected and valuable perspectives into the political debate.

Wow! What a great idea! I’m surprised “no one else has ever thought of this….”:https://themonkeycage.org/2007/11/why_this_blog.html

All snarkiness aside, this a great development, and, if it takes, yet another avenue by which the findings from political science research can be spread beyond the academy. (And, in The New Republic’s defense, their blog is intended to encompass research from a wide variety of disciplines, not just political science). Research by our fellow blogger-in-arms, “Brendan Nyhan”:http://www.brendan-nyhan.com/, has already been “featured on The Study”:http://www.tnr.com/blog/the-study/85976/it-possible-get-people-stop-being-wrong-about-obamas-birth-certificate.

It is also worth noting that The Study also lists an email address, letters@tnr.com, where you can send information about your own research papers. So if you have research that you think is relevant to current political debate that you’d like to see publicized, go ahead and send it along to TNR. And, for that matter, The Monkey Cage. And see who gets back to you first 🙂
