Guillermo O’Donnell has died

- November 30, 2011

Sad news from Scott Mainwaring:

This afternoon, Guillermo O’Donnell passed away after a 4-month battle with cancer. Guillermo was the founding academic director of the Kellogg Institute and one of the most influential and creative political scientists in the world from 1973 until his death. Guillermo was known for his courageous stances against authoritarian regimes and his commitment to make democracies better. He was a remarkable person, and we owe a huge debt to him.

Kellogg is planning to honor Guillermo and his work in Buenos Aires in March; more details will follow.

UPDATE: A more extensive tribute to O’Donnell from Mainwaring can now be found on the Kellogg website.
