Perpetually Public Data Project

- October 22, 2010

bq. Don’t let your politicians get away with hiding things from you. Don’t let them whitewash their past — or their past positions.

bq. Since June, Perpetually has been archiving the 3184 websites of 678 political candidates running for the House and Senate this November. Today we’re launching The Perpetually Public Data Project as a new way to keep politicians honest.

bq. Look, we’re grown ups and want a grown up political debate. We understand candidates’ views evolve over time. We aren’t interested in “Gotcha Journalism”. But we do want to make sure that politicians are held accountable for what they have said and shown on the web — no matter what they might be saying and showing on their websites today.

More is on their “website”:http://public.perpetually.com/. Here’s a Wall Street Journal “piece”:http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2010/10/15/website-aims-to-keep-track-of-politicians-promises/?mod=djem_jiewr_JM_domainid on the site.

Contrary to some conventional wisdom, politicians tend to keep their promises. For more, see David’s “post”:https://themonkeycage.org/2008/02/campaign_appeals_and_legislati.html on Tracy Sulkin’s work.
