To readers of _The Monkey Cage_ who are not also professional political scientists (as well as to residents of “Seattle”:https://www.apsanet.org/content_65547.cfm?navID=988!), a quick warning: this week brings the annual meeting of the American Political Science Assocation, or, as it is commonly known, APSA. What does this mean for the blog? First, most, if not all, of your authors will be at this conference, traveling to and from conference, etc., which means posting may be a little more haphazard than usual. Second, there may be more “inside baseball” type posts related to the conference (as the second half of this post will be). Third – on the hopeful, optimistic side – we should all come back having been exposed to some interesting new research that will inspire posts either from the conference or after the conference. Or not – we’ll see.
With that out of the way, I wanted to mention a non-typical panel than may be of interest in particular to late stage graduate students and recent Ph.Ds that was put together by “Dustin Tingley”:http://scholar.harvard.edu/dtingley. The panel, which meets on Thusrday from 12:30 – 2:00, is entitled “How to Referee Articles for Scholarly Journals: A Guide for Recent Ph.D.s”:https://www.apsanet.org/mtgs/program_2011/program.cfm?event=1503431. The panel includes editors of prominent journals, and should offer very valuable advice. I know I wish I could have had the opportunitiy to attend something like this when I started reviewing articles, so I wanted to bring it to our readers’ attention.
